Teamwork

The study is being led by the Illinois Department of Transportation from its District 3 office, based in Ottawa. The lead consultant for the study is Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, Inc., a planning and engineering design firm. Fifteen additional sub-consultants - each with unique expertise - will support Parsons Brinckerhoff.

  The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 3 is leading the Prairie Parkway Study. IDOT has responsibility for planning, construction and maintenance of Illinois' extensive transportation network, which encompasses, highways and bridges, airports, public transit, rail freight and rail passenger systems. The mission of IDOT is to provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity, and demonstrate respect for the environment.

  Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) is the primary consultant for planning and engineering for the Study. Founded in 1885, PB is one of the oldest continuously operating engineering firms in the world. Recognized as a leader, PB provides a full range of engineering, consulting, planning, program management, construction management services for award-winning highways, tunnels, bridges, transit systems, power facilities, airports, and marine facilities, as well as buildings and site developments. PB is employee-owned, with over 9,000 people in more than 250 offices on six continents. The Prairie Parkway Study is being led from Parsons Brinckerhoff's Chicago office.
   
Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc. Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc.
  Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc., a diversified engineering firm with an office in the study area, will support the primary consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff in the Study. Since the founding of the firm by John J. Smith in 1981, they have completed a variety of engineering projects, ranging from private land developments and residential street improvements to major municipal infrastructure and highway feasibility studies and design. Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc. currently has over 110 staff members, with offices in McHenry, Huntley, Chicago, and Yorkville, Illinois and Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, and Lenox and Austin, Texas.
