Start-up Activities Produce a Wave of Public Involvement « back

Over 230 community members gathered at Sugar Grove and Minooka on January 22-23, 2003 where they learned about the Prairie Parkway Preliminary Engineering Study. The meetings where held in an open house format, which gave the public the opportunity to watch a presentation, view exhibits, leave comments and questions, and discuss the study with representatives from IDOT.

Those who attended also learned that the Preliminary Engineering Study is much different than the previous corridor protection study. The current study begins with a comprehensive assessment of whether the existing transportation system will be able to handle the area's future travel demand. This study will begin with a year of collecting, forecasting, and evaluating, known as "Part A". The Part A process involves data collection, population and employment forecasts, travel demand forecasts, and public involvement. The result of this work will be published as a report on the transportation system's performance. With this information, IDOT will be able to identify what transportation improvements may be needed in the study area, both locally and regionally. Many of those who attended were happy to see that a through study is being conducted.

If a need is not determined, the study could be terminated.

If you would like to sign-up on the mailing list, comment on the study, or ask a question go to the "GET INVOLVED" section of this website.
